Cleaning Industry NewsCleaning Industry Prepares for CMM Expo Conferences June 3-10, facility management and cleaning professionals across North America will attend the 1998 Cleaning & Maintenance Management Conference & Exposition (CMM Expo). The program kicks off with the satellite educational conference June 3-5 at the Disneyland Pacific Hotel in Anaheim, California, followed by the main conference and trade show June 7-10 at the Hyatt Orlando in Kissimmee, Florida. The seminar program will be the same at both locations, but only the Florida conference will include the trade show exhibit, which has signed up exhibitors that include the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of building cleaning products and equipment. Among the more than 25 educational programs offered at the trade show will be 10 exhibitor-sponsored technical seminars. CMM Expo seminars and exhibitors offer leading edge information for building service contractors, carpet cleaners, managers and supervisors of housekeeping and facility maintenance operations. These professionals manage cleaning and maintenance personnel in schools, colleges, hospitals, factories, government facilities, shopping malls, office buildings and other locations. The program in each city will include a keynote address by Dr. Michael Berry, director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Center for Environmental Assessment. The Florida trade show also includes demonstrations of cleaning equipment and supplies in the exhibit hall and during the exhibitor-sponsored seminars. Demand for janitorial services, and supply needs, is forecast to increase seven percent per year to $33 billion by the year 2002. The services sector will offer the best growth opportunities in the U.S economy, while the prominence of two-income families and growing personal incomes will make the use of residential cleaning services more affordable and desirable. The best opportunities in the supplies sector will be for equipment which offers upgraded performance, improves worker productivity, or helps building owners meet increasing clean air and cleanliness standards. Janitorial service revenues are projected to increase 7.3 percent annually to almost $29 billion by the year 2002. The office buildings market will remain the largest segment. However, the industrial and residential markets will experience the fastest growth based on the currently low penetration of contract cleaning service firms in that sector. The industrial sector will be positively impacted by increasing plant construction, a growing trend towards outsourcing, as well as large amounts of manufacturing floor space.
Demand for janitorial supplies is projected to rise 5.5 percent per annum to $4.8 billion by 2002. The supplies market will be positively impacted by increasing building maintenance quality standards, concerns over Indoor Air Quality, and the recognized importance of ergonomics. Automated commercial floor cleaning equipment, particularly for carpet care and outdoor cleaning, will experience the best growth.
